2023 Merlot from Paso Robles grapes, produced by Sunbeat Cellars, an urban Arizona winery

2023 Merlot

$30

Our lowest sulfite wine with a bright, fruit-forward taste, chased by peppery notes and a smooth, creamy finish. Great for these hot summer months!

  • Tasting may be romanticized, but believe us, it's not magic. You'll experience the subtle blend of flavors differently than we do depending on numerous factors (including genetics and preferences), but here's what we discovered about our Merlot:

    Tastes we noticed:

    • Blackberry and black cherry

    • Cooked fruit

    • Black pepper

    • Nuts/sourdough bread

  • Fatty plates, aged hard cheeses, or traditional Italian food goes well with this Merlot because its brightness cuts through the heavier flavors (we even add a cup to our pizza sauce!). Also incredibly good as a “porch wine” to sip on a hot day.

This Merlot needs to be aerated/put in a decanter for at least 30 minutes! Our vintner Nick did such a good job of keeping oxygen out of this wine that its flavors don't properly open up without giving it some air.

  • I highly recommend checking them out.

We dropped by Sunbeat Cellars, not realizing they usually do tastings / tours by appointment only. We gave them a call, and Nick, the owner/winemaker, was cool enough to show us around. He knows his stuff, super passionate about the wine and the process. The wines were excellent, and the tour was really interesting.

  • I absolutely love Sunbeat Cellars.

My wife met Nick and Bree at a farmers market, bought a bottle of their Cabernet Sauvignon. We liked it so much we scheduled a tasting at their Cellars located in San Tan Valley and bought a case of wine. Nick talked us through the process of making wine and how he got started in the business. Sunbeat Cellars is a grassroots, locally-owned business that makes great wine and definitely worth giving a try.

  • Delicious wines!

After trying all of their offerings, our absolute favorites have been the two different cabernets. The wild ferment was the one that really stood out. Try them — you won’t be disappointed!

  • As good as a Daou Reserve...

… but for half the price.
